The higher mountain elevation location (Pipestem was once a ski resort) should ensure some great riding weather. West Virginia offers incredible roads for street riders and is legendary for its primitive roads for adventure riders.
Pipestem Resort State Park is located in the heart of West Virginia in the famous Appalachia Mountains. It is the perfect state to hold a summer MOA Getaway. West Virginia is the only state with a mountain valley elevation over 3,000’ east of the Mississippi River. The terrain and sparse traffic make it a natural motorcyclist haven.
Guests will enjoy the destination nestled in the heart of historical timber and coal country. Guests arriving on Friday will be impressed with the park’s great amenities. The first stop for guests will be sign-in at the McKeever Lodge sitting at the base of a mountain. The park even has as second lodge at the summit of the mountain -- the Mountain Creek Lodge.
The McKeever Lodge will be the center of everything for the event weekend. Lodging offerings for event guests include everything from traditional rooms at the lodge, cabins, RV spots, and tent camping spaces.
There will be a welcome reception featuring full-service, private cash bars and appetizers on Friday. Saturday’s banquet dinner will be catered by park staff.

Two Virginia's Rumble spends a great amount of town in both West Virginia and Virginia. To say there is a long history of the separation of West Virginia from Virginia is an understatement… Ask someone from Virginia if John Denver was talking about West Virginia (the state) or West Virginia (the region of Virginia). Guests will have plenty of time to ponder this question over the 196-mile route. For fans of history, make sure to spend a little time at the Greenbrier Hotel. This was the original underground Pentagon/White House in case America was attacked during the Cold War. It remained at a secret location until it was outed by the news program 60 Minutes. This route, while longer than others, has an estimated shorter ride time because of more open roads. This makes this route ideal for larger touring rigs.
The Eastern Front offers a little something for all guests to enjoy. The total length is 165 miles, and the total elevation covered along the route is 12,794 ft. With a great deal of riding along the route over 2,500 ft in elevation, this should offer nice cool temperatures to beat the summer heat. This route is very scenic with sections along both the Greenbrier and New River. The latter lends its name to America’s youngest national park: New River Gorge National Park. While remote, the route offers guests a sample of Appalachian hospitality that southern West Virginia is famous for when visiting small coal towns like Hinton, Rainelle and Rupert.
Midland Trail is designed for guests who want to take in some great scenery and famous roads that West Virginia has to offer at an abbreviated distance. This route will allow guests plenty of time off the bike to explore the wonders of the regions. For the ultimate relaxing getaway for couples, this route offers guests the opportunity to get in a cool morning ride along the New River and still have time to visit the spa at Pipestem Resort State Park before dinner on Saturday. Just remember to book early with the front desk. While shorter than some of the other routes, there is still over 13,000 ft in total elevation with plenty of roads topping out over 3,000 ft.
Today a lot of visitors flock to West Virginia because of the ski resorts, white water rafting, and -- yes, great motorcycle riding. There was a time when the Appalachia Mountain region of West Virginia was focused on coal production that played a major role in wars and fueling the world’s greatest industrial expansion. Coalfields Rebellion, a 173-mile route, around largely around 3,000 ft in elevation, offers guests a trip through a region that celebrates its history with coal while embracing the future of motorcycle tourism. While traveling in the shade of tree-lined roads, the elevation will offer guests a great way to enjoy summer riding without the heat.
On The Three Gorges, guests will encounter some of the best scenic vistas. As the route name would suggest, it has some of the deepest gorges in West Virginia surrounding by lots of mountains. In fact, this route has over 27,500 ft of total elevation. A great deal of this route is above 2,500 ft in elevation with plenty of extended periods around 3,000 ft. This 192-mile route will provide some great cool summer riding. Riders will need to pay attention to the technical mountain roads. It is tempting to get distracted by the incredible scenery along the New River. Because of the technical switchback, off-camber turns ascending and descending the gorge under the New River Bridge, this would not be a good route for large touring rigs. This route visits several of West Virginia’s most famous locations including the New River Bridge and Glade Creek Grist Mill at Babcock State Park, one of the most photographed locations in America. If riders grew up as a Boy Scout and ever attended the National Jamboree, you might notice some areas that look familiar. This route circles Summit Bechtel Reserve owned by Scouting America.
The Adventure Route features roughly 1/3 of the 174 miles off-road. The grandiose riding along the New River and miles of heavy tree canopy roads along towering cliffs at elevations above 2,500 ft provide some cooler summer riding. The route also visits some of West Virginia’s most famous towns. For interesting reading, check out the history of towns like Rainelle or Thurmond. If you want the short, more colorful version, just ask a local about either one of these towns.
The incredible Pipestem Resort State Park will be the base of operations for the event.
