Breaks Interstate Park is located on the Kentucky/Virginia border. It is known as the “Grand Canyon of The South,” because it is the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi with the beautiful Russell Fork River flowing though. Breaks Interstate Park is a natural haven nestled in the heart of the Appalachia Mountains.
When you arrive on Friday, you’ll be captivated by the park’s amenities. The Chafin Lodge, overlooking the roaring white water Russell Fork River, will be the center of everything for the event weekend -- starting with sign-in. There will be cash bars and exceptional catering provided by park staff.
Lodging options include rooms at the lodge, cabins on the water, RV camping and tent camping.
After a little R&R on Friday night, you’ll wake to breakfast on Saturday morning. After a good meal, you can select from multiple street or adventure routes to enjoy on two wheels. Famous area roads within short distance of the park include “Back of The Dragon” and “The Dragon Slayer.”
If you seek time off of the bike, the park offers plenty of activities. Kayaking, hiking to ziplining name a few -- even an elk tour arranged by the park rangers on Friday afternoon.

The Dueling Barrels Tour is the shortest route at just over 70 miles. It is designed for guests that want to spend some time off their bike. They can use the time exploring the park’s amenities. They can also have a tour and enjoy a great lunch at a local distillery. Dueling Barrels offers small batch boutique adult beverages that made the Appalachia region famous.
Pine Mountain Crossing General Store allows guests to experience slightly under 100 miles on their bike. They will see some incredible mountain views and take a visit to the general store, a legendary local business offering a collection of items native to the area as well as some great lunch offerings.
The Dragon Slayer/Black Mountain route will traverse 140 miles. It’s becoming a destination that motorcyclists travel to from all over. Black Mountain is the highest point in Kentucky and offers thrilling curves as well as scenic views. Guests can still get back to the park in plenty of time to explore the amenities, such as the zip-line, before the evenings banquet dinner.
Virginia is quickly gaining a national reputation for Hwy #16 -- known as the “Back of the Dragon”. Riders that have experienced the original dragon along the TN/NC border need to imagine the road being nearly four times as long and covering three mountains of elevations. This route is about 175 miles with plenty of curves to keep our guests entertained and using all of their tire surface.
Crooked Road Mountain Music Legends Tour offers guests a lesson in the deep music connection that the area has. With roughly 200 miles of great riding, there are points of interest along the way capture the history of the region. With museums and homesteads of some of the largest names in bluegrass and country music.
The last route is our Adventure Route with about 150 miles of primitive lost highways and a mixture of gravel/dirt/curvy pavement. For those not afraid of heights, make sure and enjoy the Birch Knob Observation Tower which allows riders to see five states from one location.
The incredible Breaks Interstate Park will be the base of operations for the event.
All lodging has been blocked out for our guests. However, it’s available on a first come, first served basis. Call the park directly at 276-865-4413 and speak to front desk to make reservations. It has a limited number of spaces that can accommodate RV up to a maximum of 45'. The park also has a space to park trailers, if a guest has a large RV and trailer that is more that 45'.
